FALL Alaska steelhead Trips
In September and October, I guide for Steelhead and Silver Salmon in Alaska with the Alaska Steelhead Company.
I have been lucky enough in my life to pursue and catch over three hundred different species of fish. From the warmest salt to the coldest fresh. In my own fishing experience, there are very few fish that compare to a Steelhead. They are the best of all in that they are one of the hottest Saltwater fish that just happens to ascend Trout rivers in the Spring and Fall.
Tough to find and tough to catch, each one of these fish is a treasure that has traveled hundreds if not thousands of miles just prior to your meeting. This makes them special. Of all the places to pursue them, most of the Steelhead drainages in the lower 48 and even now in BC are now suffering ever smaller runs of fish, and all too many hatchery fish at the same time.
I choose to guide in Alaska where the fish are all wild, and there are still strong numbers of them around. Additionally, with the runs in Ak, there are also lots of wild Silver Salmon running at the same time and this makes for a great assortment of some of my favorite Salmonids available at the same time and often on the same cast. Alaska is also a special place where the incredible amount of wildlife and the remote setting and aesthetics cant be beat. The variety of water in Alaska that we pursue Steelhead on is really special. From small streams that we could easily jump across to big rivers that are best floated, our Alaskan Steelhead program is pretty easily the most cost effective and successful way to target these amazing and beautiful wanderers.
